Knowledge Keeper

Knowledge Keeper is comprised of a turtle-shaped Kalimba and the neck of an electric guitar. A small microphone placed in the body of the kalimba picks up the sound when plucking the metal keys. The sound is amplified through transducers spaced out on the frets o the guitar neck. When placing your fingers on the transducers as you would do when playing a guitar vibrations of the sounds are felt on the fingertips. The title of the piece recognizes the importance of the turtle in Indigenous cultures and references Turtle Island.
